A Modification Underwriter is responsible for underwriting the following loan requests; Refinance Within Existing Terms, Interim Extensions and Assumptions. Reviews credit reports, property appraisals, income tax returns and other financial information to conduct proper due diligence. Responsible for ensuring modification correspondence is sent to the broker/borrower and the Bank's attorney of behalf of the Bank. Administers the Modification to Approved Terms email inbox by routing emails to the appropriate department(s) and ensures documents are uploaded into the loan database system. Performs data integrity corrections as needed.
Specific to loan modification requests: Reviews property operating statements and prepares property cash flow and collateral adequacy analyses for various types of income producing properties utilizing NewGen. Reviews publicly available information for comparison to historical property expenses (i.e. Real Estate Tax Assessments, water and sewer bills, etc.) and current property details/condition, reviews appraisals for conformity with initial loan sizing, underwriting and consistency, prepares and structures written loan committee presentations to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, and analyzes the creditworthiness of potential borrowers using credit reports, financial statements, income tax returns, organizational documents, payment histories for existing loans, etc. Prepares draft loan commitment modifications for review by a Mortgage Lending Officer. Prepares, analyzes and structures written *refinances within existing terms* memorandums and performs supporting cash flow analyses. Communicates directly with mortgage brokers and borrowers. Administers the *Modification to Approved Terms* email inbox by routing emails to the appropriate area and ensures documents are uploaded into the loan database system. Updates the Bank's loan database system as necessary. Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required. Where applicable and when performing the responsibilities of the job, employees are accountable to maintain Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and adhere to internal control policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree, preferably with a major in Business, Finance or Accounting. Two years of experience performing analytical functions preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic financial principles. Ability to comprehend financial statements. PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management skills. Strong analytical skills. Strong attention to detail. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work well individually and within a team environment. Ability to multi-task and manage a high volume workload accurately and effectively.
